EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I received my graduate degree in Integral Counseling Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies in 1992 and my undergraduate degree in Politics from Princeton University in 1984.

I have been a psychotherapist in the mental health field since the early 1990s and in private practice, where I provide a range of therapy services, since 1995. For ten years, I was the Director of Counseling at Drew College Preparatory School, an independent high school in San Francisco. I have been supervising therapists-in-training for ten years, most recently at the Marina Counseling Center and in the graduate clinical program at the California Institute of Integral Studies.

AREAS OF CLINICAL FOCUS

  • Empowering adults in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s to engage life, work and relationships more fully.
  • Helping individuals to resolve self-limiting beliefs that lead to depression, despair and a sense of powerlessness and meaninglessness in life.
  • Deepening self-acceptance by helping individuals to understand and transform the roots of depression, anxiety, shame, guilt, anger and aggression.
  • Helping adults to heal from childhood or adult trauma and reclaim the aliveness of their body, mind and spirit.
  • Empowering men and women with internet addictions to contain behaviors that offer quick satisfaction and relief but which cause shame and threaten intimacy.
  • Rekindling relationship intimacy by helping partners to resolve old fears and bitterness, rebuild trust, and risk greater vulnerability and openheartedness.
  • Helping couples transform self-protective strategies that undermine intimacy, including withdrawal, criticism, defensiveness and contempt.
  • Empowering couples to navigate such transitions as moving in together, deciding to marry or start a family, dealing with infertility, adjusting to life with newborns, healing from affairs, launching adolescents, and reviving erotic intelligence.
  • Helping individuals who have had ruptures or impasses with prior therapists to rebuild trust and recommit to their self-growth.
  • Helping individuals to connect to the stillness within and to the sacred in everyday life.
